History of the PGA

With over 28,600 members and apprentices and over 400 staff members throughout the country, The PGA of America is the largest working sports organization in the world. Formed in 1916, the purpose of The PGA is to promote the enjoyment of and involvement in the game of golf, and to contribute to its growth by providing services to the golf professional and the golf industry. The PGA accomplishes this by enhancing the skills of its member golf professionals and providing quality golf opportunities and experiences for amateurs, junior golfers, golf facilities, golf manufacturers and the general public.

In doing so, The PGA will elevate the standards of the game, stimulate interest, and promote the overall vitality of the game of golf. The Northern Texas PGA is one of the 41 sections that comprise The PGA of America and has a professional membership of more than 800. In addition to managing the day-to-day affairs of the Section, the headquarters operates the Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. The Junior Golf Foundation provides The PGA golf professional an opportunity to impact the game in a most important and lasting fashion. Active involvement with junior golf is, indeed, an opportunity to promote and teach this game of a lifetime to the youth of our communities.
