ELLIOTT CAPTURES NORTHERN TEXAS PGA PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Jamie Elliott, PGA teaching professional at Prestonwood Country Club (Creek Course), posted a two-round total score of six-under par, 138 to win the Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship.  Elliott’s bogey-free second round included one birdie on the front nine and two birdies on the back nine, one of which was on the par-5, 18th hole.  This victory marks Elliott’s fourth Northern Texas PGA major championship victory.  Elliott will take home a $3,000.00 check for his victory.

Finishing in second place was Stuart Deane, PGA teaching professional at Sinclair’s Golf Training Center.  Deane posted rounds of two-under par, 70 and four-under par, 68 for a total of six-under par, 138. Deane, playing in the next to last group ahead of Elliott birdied his final two holes to post the low score in the clubhouse.
Within ten minutes of Elliott making birdie on the last hole to force a playoff, all contestants and sponsors headed for shelter as inclement weather approached Craig Ranch. Subsequently, the playoff between Elliott and Deane was delayed, as was the playoff for the alternate spots for the PGA Professional National Championship.

Immediately following the suspension, Deane informed officials that he had an 8:00 p.m. flight to catch. Deane, was scheduled to work with Derek Lamely, at the Wyndham Championship on the PGA TOUR at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning in Greensboro, NC. Lamely, who captured his first victory on the PGA TOUR at the Puerto Rico Open earlier this year, is coached by Deane.

Due to the weather delay and Deane’s commitment to Lamely, he forfeited the opportunity to capture his first NTPGA major championship. Deane shook Elliott’s hand and congratulated him on the victory and left straight for the airport to catch his flight.

Elliott will lead eight (8) PGA professionals from the Northern Texas Section to the PGA Professional National Championship at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pennsylvania to be conducted June 26 – June 29, 2011.  Joining Elliott will be Stuart Deane, PGA teaching professional at Sinclair’s Golf Training Center, John Sikes, PGA teaching professional at Hollytree Country Club, Clint Avara, PGA teaching professional at Creekview Golf Club, Cameron Doan, PGA head professional at Preston Trail Golf Club, Kevin Golding, PGA head professional at Four Seasons Resort & Club (TPC), Joshua Havard, PGA assistant professional at Country View Golf Club and Perry Arthur, PGA teaching professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course.  The top 20 players from the 2011 PGA National Professional Championship will compete in the 93rd PGA Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club.

This 36-hole NTPGA Section major championship is the third of the four individual stroke play championships that comprise the Cleveland Golf  Srixon / Club Car NTPGA Player of the Year Points Challenge, as well as a qualifier for points to make the 2010 NTPGA Match Play Championship and Texas Joe Black Cup team.  The NTPGA Professional Championship was presented by Titliest, FootJoy, Club Car and Mercedes-Benz and supported by the HP Byron Nelson Championship and PGA TOUR.  The Championship was conducted at TPC Craig Ranch a 7,168 yard par 72 layout located in McKinney, Texas.

The Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship featured 100 Section members who competed for the $21,100.00 purse with the champion taking home $3,000.00.
