ANTUNES CAPTURES KBS TOUR SHAFTS NTPGA SENIORS’ CHAMPIONSHIP

Greg Antunes, PGA teaching professional at Stonetree Golf Club, captured the KBS Tour Shafts NTPGA Seniors’ Championship title and his second Northern Texas PGA major championship victory with a final score of six-under par, 134. Antunes was able to extend his one stroke lead over Lindy Miller, PGA teaching professional at Shady Oaks Country Club, after making birdie on the first hole of the day. With two more birdies and two bogeys, Antunes posted a one-under par, 34 on the front nine. Even more impressive was Antunes’ back nine, where he made seven straight pars and finished with two birdies on holes #17 and #18 for a final round total of three-under par, 67. Antunes will take home a $900.00 check for his victory.

Qualifying for the 2010 Senior PGA Professional National Championship was held in conjunction with the KBS Tour Shafts NTPGA Seniors’ Championship. The Senior PGA Professional National Championship is scheduled for October 7 – 10, 2010 at Toscana Country Club in Indian Wells, California and Rancho La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta, California. After 36-holes, the field will be cut to the low 70 players, plus ties. The final two rounds will be played at Toscana Country Club.

The top seven eligible finishers will represent the Northern Texas PGA at the 2010 Senior PGA Professional National Championship. The qualifiers include Greg Antunes, Billy Harris, PGA head professional at Dallas Country Club, Bobby Mims, PGA head professional at Sunset Golf Club, Gilbert Freeman, PGA head professional at Lakewood Country Club, Michael Hurley, PGA head professional at Grayson County College Golf Course, Chuck Young, PGA teaching professional at Lake Ridge Golf Center, and Bill Euler, PGA head professional at Wildflower Country Club. Perry Arthur, PGA teaching professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson who did not compete in the field this week and Lindy Miller are already exempt into the 2010 Senior PGA Professional National Championship via their playing performance in the 2009 Senior PGA Professional Championship and 2010 Senior PGA Championship respectively.

The KBS Tour Shafts NTPGA Seniors’ Championship was a 36-hole stroke play event contested at River Crest Country Club, a 6,383-yard, par 70 layout located in Fort Worth, Texas. The 37-player field competed for a total purse of $5,250.00, with $900.00 awarded to the overall champion.
