FORT WORTH, TX – The team of Austin Connelly, Tour Professional, and his amateur partner Tony Romo, former Dallas Cowboy, sit atop the leaderboard after Round One of the Lajitas Golf Resort & Srixon / Cleveland Golf / XXIO Pro-Scratch Championship. They managed an impressive five birdies and one eagle to take the lead into tomorrow’s final round, finishing the day at 6-under par.
Two shots back of the leaders is the team of Adam Headley, PGA head professional at Hillcrest Country Club, and amateur partner Michael Pruitt. Connelly/Romo and Headley/Pruitt all played during today’s morning wave, which means both teams will be the final group of the afternoon wave during Round Two.
Again this year, the Championship includes a Senior Division that is comprised of 19 teams with participants paired together aged 50 or older. These teams are competing for a separate $4,650 purse and playing at modified yardages. The team of Ira Meachem, PGA assistant professional at Luna Vista Golf Course, and Dave Davis (a) took the lead in this division with a 4-under par, 67.
The Four-Ball Stroke Play Northern Texas PGA major championship is being conducted at Shady Oaks Country Club and features an Open Division field with 77 teams of one PGA professional teamed with one scratch amateur. Open Division teams are competing for a share of the $18,850 purse. Amateurs will be awarded gift certificates.
