DALLAS, TX – Tristan Cottrell, PGA assistant professional at Bent Tree Country Club leads after round one of the Joyce Crane | Veritex Bank Section Championship at Royal Oaks Country Club. Cottrell carded a 35-32–67, 4-under-par in the opening round that included three birdies and an eagle.
Nine other professionals currently sit under-par and Chris Brown, PGA TOUR caddie is only one shot behind the leader Cottrell, who is seeking his first Northern Texas PGA major championship. Two-time section champion Brian Norman, PGA instructor at Lakewood Country Club is just two shots back and tied for third place.
The Senior Division is made up of 38 professionals ages 50 and over, playing for a separate title and purse. Billy Harris, PGA Life Member, holds the lead by one shot in the Senior Division at 66, 5-under-par going into the final round. Harris bogeyed the final hole to narrowly miss out on shooting his age. Stuart Hendley, PGA director of instruction at Dallas Athletic Club is just one shot behind as he looks to catch Harris and win his third title of the summer.
The 125 Northern Texas PGA Members and Associates in the field are competing for a $100,000 overall purse. The Open Division Champion will earn $8,500 and an exemption into the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson PGA TOUR event. The Senior Division Champion will take home $4,300. The final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow with tee times off of the #1 tee. The Senior Division will go off first, followed by the Open Division and the leaders at 2:33 p.m.
