Cameron Doan, PGA head professional at Preston Trail Golf Club, takes the lead after round one of the Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship. Doan fired a solid 4-under par, 68, with an eagle and two birdies, to open the Championship. Two professionals, Bruce Smith, PGA Director of Instruction at Black Belt Golf Academy, and Paul Norris, PGA teaching professional at Hawks Creek Golf Club, sit one shot back of Doan at 3-under par, 69.
Qualifying for the 2018 Senior PGA Professional National Championship is being held in conjunction with the Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship. Thirty-three professionals of the 53-man field are attempting to qualify this week. The top five players (plus the champion if registered for the qualifier) will represent the Northern Texas PGA Section at the 2018 Senior PGA Professional National Championship to be held October 25 – October 28 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Doan is attempting to qualify and leads the list of those in contention after round one.
The 2018 Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship, supported by GolfAdvisor.com and John Deere, is a 36-hole stroke play event being contested on the Pecan and Bluebonnet Courses at Grapevine Golf Course, a 6,671-yard, par 72 layout located in Grapevine, Texas. The field is competing for a projected purse of $11,000 with the eventual champion set to take home $1,600.
