LEWISVILLE, TEXAS – Matt Lohmeyer, PGA teaching professional at GolfTEC - Montgomery Plaza, leads the Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship after Round One. Lohmeyer posted an opening round of 5-under-par 67, notching an eagle and six birdies to sit atop the leaderboard heading into tomorrow’s final round. Lohmeyer will be vying for his first Northern Texas PGA individual major championship win. He is bringing some nice momentum into this event after finishing as the Low PGA Professional at the Tanos Exploration II / Patterson-UTI Drilling Texas State Open just a few weeks ago. He carded a 9-under in the final round of that event to take home the honors.
Sitting two shots back of the leader is 2018 Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship Champion Greg Gregory, PGA head professional at Hidden Creek Golf Course. Gregory finished the round at 3-under-par, with a total of five birdies for the day. Lohmeyer, Gregory and 2019 TPx Communications Western Champion Josh Havard, PGA head professional at Rolling Hills Country Club, will play together in tomorrow’s final pairing. They are set to tee off at 1:03 p.m.
The field is competing for eight qualifying spots into the 53rd PGA Professional Championship set to take place April 26-29, 2020, at Omni Barton Creek Resort and Spa in Austin, Texas. The PGA Professional Championship purse is $550,000, distributed among those who make the cut in the 312-player field. Golf Channel will televise all four rounds of the National Championship.
If eligibility is met and maintained, the low 20 scorers in 2020 will earn berths into the 102nd PGA Championship, May 14-17, 2020, at Harding Park Golf Club, San Francisco, California.
This 36-hole NTPGA Section major championship is the third of the four individual stroke play championships that comprise the Yamaha Golf-Car Company & Srixon / Cleveland Golf / XXIO Player of the Year Points Challenge presented by Adventures In Golf.
