Paul Norris, PGA golf coach at Texas Wesleyan University, leads the Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship after round one. Norris, the defending champion, fired an impressive 8-under par 63, carding nine birdies and one bogey to lead by four strokes over Stuart Hendley, PGA director of instruction at Green Tree Country Club. Norris will lead the field of 44 Northern Texas PGA senior members heading into tomorrow's final round.
Hendley’s 4-under par 67 puts him in second place by one stroke over David Foster, PGA head professional at Denton Country Club.
Qualifying for the 2016 Senior PGA Professional National Championship is being held in conjunction with the Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship. Thirty-two professionals are attempting to qualify this week. The top five players will represent the Northern Texas PGA Section at the Senior PGA Professional National Championship to be held November 17-20, 2016 at PGA Golf Club, Port St. Lucie, Florida. Norris, Hendley, Foster and Sam Randolph, PGA director of instruction at Mira Vista Country Club, lead the list of those in contention after round one.
The 2016 Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship supported by Mercedes-Benz is a 36-hole stroke play event being contested on the Cottonwood Valley Course at Four Seasons Resort and Club, a 7,120-yard, par 71 layout located in Irving, Texas. The field is competing for a total purse of $8,800.
