WHITNEY, TX - The Northern Texas PGA leads the Southern Texas PGA 7-5 after day one of the 7th Levy Cup Matches at White Bluff Resort - The New Course.
The Levy Cup is a Ryder Cup-style format featuring teams represented by four Assistant PGA Professionals and four Senior PGA Professionals (any classification, aged 50 and older) and four PGA Members Other who qualified through their respective Section Major Championships. The Matches were created in 2017 to celebrate Paul Levy, PGA who was completing his first year of a two-year term as President of the PGA of America. During his career Paul has been a member of both Sections.
The teams went back and forth throughout the morning Four-Ball matches with points earned for both teams early. Team NTPGA member Matt Ryba, PGA assistant professional at Preston Trail Golf Club, and Team STPGA member Ross Prachar, PGA instructor at Golf Club of Houston, both made birdies on the 18th hole to secure ties in their respective matches.
The score sat tied at 3-3 after the morning matches.
Heading into the afternoon Foursomes matches, Team NTPGA captain Austin Fields, PGA head professional at Lakewood Country Club and vice-captain Stephen Aumock, PGA director of instruction at Gleneagles Country Club thought it was best to keep their pairings unchanged.
Brian Norman, PGA instructor at Lakewood Country Club and Gabe Reynolds, PGA director of instruction at Topgolf - Dallas, rebounded from their morning loss and put on a dominant performance. They won their foursomes match, 7 & 6.
The winning continued for the north as they won four of six matches in the afternoon to gain a two point advantage heading into tomorrow. The teams will compete in Singles matches, beginning at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow.
