FRISCO, TEXAS –
The Hillcrest Country Club team of Adam Headley, PGA head professional, and Stephen Gage, assistant professional, and the Preston Trail Golf Club team of Cameron Doan, PGA head professional, and Ben Cuzen, PGA assistant professional, shared the title of champions at the 2016 KBS TOUR Shafts Pro-Assistant Championship. Headley and Gage fired rounds of 65-67—132, 12-under-par, while Doan and Cuzen carded rounds of 64-68—132, 12-under-par.
Each pair took home the first place team prize money of $2,300 from the $23,000 purse as well as range finders provided by Bushnell Golf.
With this co-victory, Doan has now won the Pro-Assistant Championship 12 times. From 2002-2008 Doan paired with one of his assistants to win eight in a row. His other three victories came in 2010, 2013 and 2015. This was Headley’s first time to claim the event.
Matt Rippy, assistant professional at Keeton Park Golf Course, notched a hole-in-one on hole #10 of the Fazio course. He hit a 7-iron 185 yards for his first ace.
A total of 106 teams competed in this 36-hole Four-Ball Stroke Play event. The KBS TOUR Shafts Pro-Assistant Championship, presented by AT&T Byron Nelson, Bushnell Golf, Callaway Golf, Club Car, Jim Quinn Finer Golf Products and Purpose Golf, was conducted at Stonebriar Country Club (Club and Fazio Courses) in Frisco, Texas.
