Tom Strueber, PGA Life Member, and Stuart Hendley, PGA director of instruction at Grapevine Golf Course, share the lead after round one of the Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship. Strueber and Hendley both fired a solid 3-under par, 69 to open the Championship. After making bogey on the first hole, Strueber managed four birdies, including one on #18 for his 69. Hendley opened with two birdies and carded another on #16 for his 3-under round today. Four players sit one shot back of the leaders at 2-under par, 70.
Qualifying for the 2017 Senior PGA Professional National Championship is being held in conjunction with the Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship. Thirty-two players of the 51-man field are attempting to qualify this week. The top four players (plus the champion if registered for the qualifier) will represent the Northern Texas PGA Section at the Senior PGA Professional National Championship to be held September 28 - October 1, 2017 at Desert Mountain, Scottsdale, Arizona. Hendley is attempting to qualify and leads the list of those in contention after round one. Strueber is not attempting to qualify.
The 2017 Club Car Northern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship, supported by Mercedes-Benz and John Deere, is a 36-hole stroke play event being contested on Course #1 at Sherrill Park Golf Course, a 6,743-yard, par 72 layout located in Richardson, Texas. The field is competing for a total purse of $10,520 with the eventual champion set to take home $1,700.
