LEWISVILLE, TX –
The team of Benjamin Kern, head professional at Oeste Ranch Golf Course, and his amateur partner Derek Brown currently share the lead at the National Car Rental Pro-Scratch Championship with Rob Stock, PGA teaching professional at Brookhaven Golf Course, and his amateur partner Chris McKay. Both teams posted an 8-under par 64. Kern/Brown did so during the morning wave and Stock/McKay did so during the afternoon wave.
Three teams sit one shot back of the leaders at 7-under par. They include Christopher Brown, PGA TOUR caddie, and his amateur partner Zack Atkinson who played during the morning round as well as Scott Simonsen, head professional at Prestonwood Country Club, and his amateur partner Josh Farrell and Brent Blackburn, PGA head professional at Gentle Creek Country Club, and his amateur partner Russell Williams during the afternoon round.
The Four-Ball Stroke Play Northern Texas PGA major championship is being conducted at The Lakes at Castle Hills and features a field of 52 teams of one PGA professional teamed with one scratch amateur. The championship is a rescheduled tournament from mid-April when weather rendered the golf course unplayable during the originally scheduled dates.
Teams are competing for a share of the $15,050 purse. The winning team will take home $1,500 for first place. Amateurs will be awarded gift certificates. Round two is scheduled to start with tee times from 8:00 – 9:10 a.m. and 12:10 – 1:10 p.m.
The National Car Rental Pro-Scratch Championship is presented by Adventures In Golf, AHEAD, AT&T Byron Nelson, IMAVEX, Mizuno USA, Volvik and WeatherBug.
